DHET Delegation Visits FAFU

 

On September 5th, Mr. Sello Lucas SETHUSHA, the Director for Lecturer Development and Support at the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) of the Republic of South Africa, led a delegation of South Africas vocational education principals on a visit to Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU). Lai Hairong, Chair of the University Council, met the delegation. Zheng Baodong, Vice President of FAFU, attended the meeting.

On behalf of FAFU, Lai Hairong welcomed Mr. SETHUSHA and the delegation. He noted that education cooperation is an important cornerstone of the friendship between China and South Africa. In response to the Belt and Road Initiative, FAFU stays committed to promoting the in-depth educational exchanges with South Africa. By leveraging its distinctive advantages in agro-technology, rural revitalization, Juncao Technology and using the Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology (DUT) as a platform, FAFU hopes to explore a new model of vocational education cooperation, aiming to provide robust momentum for people-to-people exchanges and sustainable development between the two countries.

Mr. SETHUSHA expressed his sincere gratitude for FAFUs warm reception and introduced key points and directions of South Africas education and training plans. He hoped that FAFUs Confucius Institute at DUT will further facilitate the cooperation in curriculum system development, teaching capacity building, joint-training of students, scientific research collaboration, and in particular, the tailored training in Chinese + Agriculture Vocational Technology and Chinese + Green Development. All these efforts will enhance the quality and efficiency of the South African vocational education system.

On the Spot of Exchanges

Mr. Zheng and Mr. Nkosinathi MCHUNU signed a letter of intent for cooperation

Mr. Zheng Baodong presided over the meeting in which both sides fully discussed how to co-establish training bases, develop teaching standards, as well as carry out training of agricultural technology and high-caliber professionals. Mr. Zheng and Mr. Nkosinathi MCHUNU, Director of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Department of Vocational Education and Training, signed a letter of intent for cooperation, marking the official collaboration between the two sides.

During the visit, the delegation also toured FAFUs Haixia Institute of Science and Technology (College of Future Technology) and National Engineering Research Center of JUNCAO Technology.

Officials from Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Office of Social Services, College of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, College of Juncao Science and Ecology, College of Rural Revitalization, and the Confucius Institute at DUT attended the meeting.
