FAFU Convenes 2025 Progress Meeting on China–Pacific Island Countries Cooperative Poverty Alleviation

On the morning of June 30th, the 2025 progress meeting for the China-Pacific Island Countries Poverty Alleviation and Cooperative Development Center (hereinafter referred to as Poverty Alleviation Center) was convened at Wuyi Hall in Mingde Building of FAFU, chaired by Vice President Zheng Baodong.

At the meeting, FAFU’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and the Poverty Alleviation Center respectively reported on the preparations for two poverty reduction programs to be hosted by the University this year, and concerned departments held discussions. Moreover, Mr. Zheng Baodong pointed out the pivotal role of the Poverty Alleviation Center in giving full play to the Universitys distinctive advantages and expanding internationalization of education to support national strategies. He also highlighted the significance of the approved and forthcoming programs on agricultural technology application and management training targeting Pacific island countries in enhancing disciplinary strength and boosting international influence. Therefore, he urged all involved parties to well prepare training courses by reviewing and drawing upon the experience gained through Juncao foreign aid efforts, and make concerted efforts to ensure a distinctive and effective training program to facilitate FAFUs pursuit of the “Double First-Class” Initiative (The World First-Class Universities and Academic Disciplines).

In recent years, FAFU has established three flagship international cooperation and research platforms: the China-Pacific Island Countries Poverty Alleviation and Cooperative Development Center, China-Pacific Island Countries Juncao Technology Demonstration Center, and the Research Center for South Pacific Island Countries (RCSPIC). Building on its long-standing experience in Juncao foreign aid initiatives and relevant distinctive disciplines, the University has turned its expertise to concrete actions that support China’s diplomatic efforts and foster deeper exchanges and collaboration with Pacific island countries. These efforts make it one of the few universities in China with dual national centers focused on international cooperation with and academic research in Pacific island countries. Under the guidance of national and provincial authorities, the three centers have strengthened bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, such as working in synergy to conduct area studies concerning South Pacific island nations, and carrying out agricultural technology training and cooperative poverty reduction practice based on their social, economic, and cultural contexts. Collectively, the three centers complement and reinforce one another, together contributing to enhancing FAFU’s global recognition, supporting national diplomatic goals, and promoting a closer-knit China-Pacific island countries community with a shared future.
