On May 28th, research Team led by Professor Chen Xinhua from Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) successfully completed the project “Development and Application of the Diagnostic System for Large Yellow Croaker (Larimichthys crocea) Trypanosomiasis” in Ningde, Fujian. A review panel, composed of experts from National and Fujian Provincial Fisheries Technology Extension Centers, conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the project outcomes. After listening to technical presentations, conducting on-site tests, reviewing documentation, and engaging in inquiries, the panel concluded that the diagnostic technology developed by the research team exhibits high specificity and sensitivity, practical applicability, strong operability, and a solid foundation for further application, thus unanimously approving acceptance of the project.

The research team, in collaboration with China Agriculture Research System for Marine Fish Culture Industry, has systematically developed a multi-scenario, multi-purpose, and highly sensitive molecular diagnostic system targeting Trypanosomiasis, an emerging disease which has posed a severe threat to the large yellow croaker aquaculture industry in recent years. Additionally, the team developed a standardized supporting diagnostic reagent kit, which has already been deployed in 14 research institutions and aquaculture enterprises across Fujian and Zhejiang provinces, yielding promising results. Furthermore, the research team spearheaded the drafting of the Diagnostic Protocol for Large Yellow Croaker Trypanosomiasis, a group standard under the China Agriculture Research System for Marine Fish Culture Industry, providing a standardized technical framework for the rapid diagnosis of the disease. The completion of this project is expected to significantly enhance China’s capacity for surveillance and early warning, and targeted prevention of major marine fish diseases, thereby fostering the high-quality development of the large yellow croaker industry.
