Since its establishment in 1993, the College of Computer and Information Sciences has focused on intensive capacity building and distinctive development, steadily improving its educational quality. As of February 2025, the College employs 177 faculty and staff members, including 142 full-time faculty (17 professors and 46 associate professors). Among them are 3 national-level distinguished experts, 11 provincial-level high-end talents, and 3 recipients of the Fujian Provincial Excellent Teacher Award. The College currently enrolls 3,211 students, comprising 2,823 undergraduates, 305 master’s students, 83 ethnic minority students in preparatory programs, and 2 doctoral candidates.
The College offers a wide range of degree programs, including one interdisciplinary PhD program focusing on the application and development of big data technology in the fields of agriculture, forestry, and engineering. The college’s master’s programs include Computer Science and Technology, Statics, Intelligent Science and Technology, Applied Statistics, Software Engineering, and Network and Information Security. The college’s undergraduate program consists of eight majors: Computer Science and Technology, Electronic Information Engineering, Software Engineering, Cyberspace Security, Statistics, Data Science and Big Data Technology, Computer Science and Technology, and Network Engineering, the last two of which are regional collaborative programs between Fujian and Taiwan.
The college boasts two provincial/departmental-level research platforms, namely the Center for Agricultural and Forestry Big-data Research in Fujian and the Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of Smart Agriculture and Forestry. Additionally, there are five university-level research centers in statistical information, computer application, statistics and applications, cybersecurity, and applied Mathematics. Over the past five years, the college has undertaken more than 70 research projects at or above the provincial/ministerial level, including 17 grants from the National Natural Science Foundation and 48 from the Provincial Natural Science Foundation. It has also undertaken over 100 department-level and enterprise-commissioned projects, with cumulative research funding exceeding RMB 35 million Yuan. In terms of publication, faculty members have published over 200 high-impact papers in peer-reviewed journals, filed more than 30 patents, and registered over 50 software copyrights. The college has received one Fujian Provincial Teaching Achievement Award and three Fujian Provincial Science and Technology Achievement Awards, demonstrating its pivotal role in boosting digital economy and driving industrial innovation in the region.
Adhering to a pedagogical approach centering on students, the College prioritizes moral education, competency enhancement, and holistic development. It promotes learning and teaching through competitions, consistently ranking first in the university’s competition scoreboards, winning prizes in major contests such as the China Internet+ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for College Students, one of the handful of top-tier academic and scientific competition in the country. In 2024, the college ranked in the top 6 percent among the country’s 1,157 undergraduate institutions in Computer Science Competition Index , securing an A- rating, the college has cultivated and supplied nearly 10,000 high-quality graduates in a high variety of sectors, significantly contributing to national talent development and boosting industrial progress.
