The College of Economics and Management (CEM) at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University has its roots in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Fujian Xiehe University, founded in 1936, and the Department of Agricultural Economics at the Provincial Agricultural College of Fujian, established in 1940. Over the years, these two academic traditions converged, leading to several structural adjustments, culminating in the college's reorganization in January 2021.
CEM comprises 151 faculty and staff members, including 124 full-time educators, 27 professors, and 63 associate professors, with 22 serving as doctoral supervisors. The college has a total enrollment of 2,987 students, consisting of 2,054 undergraduates, 870 master's students, and 63 doctoral candidates.
CEM hosts a postdoctoral research center and offers one first-level doctoral program, three first-level master's programs, five professional master's degree programs, and eight undergraduate programs. The postdoctoral research center focuses on Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management, complemented by a doctoral program that includes specialized disciplines such as Agricultural Economics Management, Forestry Economics Management, and Agribusiness Management. The college provides three master’s degree programs: Agricultural and Forestry Economics and Management (with sub-disciplines in Agricultural Economics and Management and Forestry Economics and Management), Business Administration (with sub-disciplines in Accounting, Business Management, and Tourism Management), and Applied Economics (with sub-disciplines in Regional Economics, Finance, and International Trade). Additionally, five professional degree programs are available: Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc), Master of Finance (MF), Master of Digital Economy (MDE), and Master of Tourism Management (MTA). Undergraduate majors include Agricultural and Forestry Economics and Management, Finance, International Economics and Trade, Business Administration, Tourism Management, Cultural Industry Management, Human Resource Management, and Accounting. Two of these majors—Agricultural and Forestry Economics and Management, and Finance—have been approved as National First-Class Undergraduate Programs, while four others—Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Accounting, and Tourism Management—have been recognized as Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Programs.
CEM boasts four national-level research platforms: the China-Pacific Island Countries Poverty Alleviation and Cooperative Development Center (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), the Collective Forestry Reform and Development Research Center (National Forestry and Grassland Administration), the Research Center for South Pacific Island Countries (National and Regional Research Bases of the Ministry of Education), and the Policy and Reform Cooperation Research Base (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs). Additionally, CEM hosts 13 provincial and university-level research platforms, such as the Fujian Inclusive Finance Research Institute, Fujian Rural Tourism Research Center, and Ecological Civilization Research Center.
CEM has embraced its One Body, Two Wings disciplinary development strategy, actively aligning itself with national development initiatives and contributing to both national and local economic progress. The college has made significant strides in educational and research outcomes in key areas such as the reform of the collective forest rights system, rural revitalization, ecological civilization, and sustainable development.
CEM has received recognition from national leadership for its decision-making consulting report and has published four theoretical articles in key national media, including People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, and Economic Daily. It has undertaken over 30 national-level research projects, including a National Social Science Major Project, the highest level of social science research in China. The college has also been awarded 28 provincial and ministerial honors, which include the Excellent Achievement Award for Scientific Research in Higher Education (Humanities and Social Sciences), the Fujian Provincial Social Science Excellent Achievement Award, and the Liang Xi Forestry Science and Technology Progress Award. Additionally, CEM has been recognized with two educational and research awards, including the Fujian Provincial Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award. Over a hundred academic papers have been published in high-quality domestic and international journals, such as China Economic Quarterly, China Rural Economy, Journal of Financial Research, Forest policy and economics,and Technological Forecasting and Social Change.
In this new era, the faculty and staff of CEM at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University are dedicated to fostering virtue and nurturing talent while strengthening agriculture and supporting rural development. By aligning with national strategies and the socioeconomic development of Fujian Province, CEM aims to establish its distinctive role and, with renewed vigor, embark on new initiatives to drive high-quality development in the years to come.
